At St John Bosco, 17 Lipsett Tce Brooklyn Park

If we allow Christ's word to enter deep within our hearts and consciences, his word can take root there. Then he will be able to do great things with us, in union with us. He asks if we have ears. We should listen, and when we listen, he will transform our lives. This takes silence, interior and exterior, and it takes trust in him and in his ways. All of this will lead to fertile ground, and it is in fertile ground that Christ can plant his grace. He is the vine, and we are the branches.

June 27 with Bishop Greg O'Kelly

Special guest speaker Bishop Greg O'Kelly promises to set our hearts on fire for the pilgrimage to Sydney.

As usual we were engaged and treasured by our Bishop Greg O'Kelly.
He took us through a brief and insightful look at historical South Australia. He explained the history and journey of Catholicism in Adelaide and through the eyes of Bl. Mary MacKillop.
The Adelaide Cathedral celebrates 150 years this month and so it is most fitting we rediscover our past!

Sr Marie Foale (middle in photo wearing yellow jumper) gave us a deep and personal look into the life and making of Bl. Mary MacKillop who is a patron Saint of WYD.

We were walked through her life and discovered many intimacies about her family and mission. I did not know that Bl Mary MacKillop's family life was so difficult and dysfunctional. She is a Saint for our country that is racked by divorce and broken family life. Please read up on Bl. Mary's life. She is our saint and we can grow close to her and learn from her exemplary life. Please also pray for her Canonisation so the world can share in God's Majesty through her witness of His generosity and passion for all His peoples.

Our WYD singers shared with us the meaning behind the song and enlivened our connection to the theme song. I can't wait to sing it in Sydney!

God bless Deacon Matthew as he walks to the threshold of faith and to give his life to Jesus. May Our Lord take you up into His glory. We love you and pray you take us up by your sacrifice!

Visit Mary MacKillop at WYD08

Get Your Tickets NowAmong the key patron saints of the Sydney World Youth Day, Blessed Mary MacKillop stands out as being the only native Australian.During her beatification in 1995, Pope John Paul II said Mary MacKillop embodies the best of this nation and its people. He supported this point with the examples of "genuine openness to others, hospitality to strangers, generosity to the needy, justice to those unfairly treated, perseverance in the face of adversity, kindness and support to the suffering."In the spirit of the blessed, the sisters of the order she founded -- the Josephites -- are opening up their residence and shrine in North Sydney to World Youth Day pilgrims in a special way.Spokeswoman for the order, Sister Monica Cavanagh, told me that young visitors will be able to choose from a number of different spiritual experiences upon visiting Mary MacKillop's Place, http://www.wyd-marymackillop.com/ the final resting place of Sister Mary and the home of the order she founded in 1866, the Sisters of St. Joseph.
"There will be the opportunity to just walk through the chapel and pause at Mary MacKillop's tomb," she said. "Or for those seeking a deeper experience," the sister added, "there will be programs which additionally include a Mass in the Mary MacKillop Chapel, a special exhibition of relics and objects selected from the Sisters of St. Joseph archives and Mary MacKillop Museum, and they can even pick up some memorabilia to recall this moment of prayer in their journey."With up to 10,000 pilgrims a day expected to converge on Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney, and with so much additional national and international interest in Blessed Mary and her pending canonization, Sister Monica suggests registering for a place in line to avoid disappointment."Pilgrims will have traveled from far and wide in order to spend some spiritual time at Mary MacKillop's tomb," said Sister Monica. "And to ensure everyone gets their chance, we have had to initiate a registration process for purely logistical reasons."Pilgrims can register to visit Mary MacKillop Place by logging onto the Ticketek Web site (http://premier.ticketek.com.au/Shows/Show.aspx?sh=MMP08) and selecting their preferred day and time. If any difficulties are experienced, the shrine can be contacted by calling Yvette Nehme at +61 2 8912 4841, or sending her an e-mail -- yvette.nehme@sosj.org.au.But due to the large numbers anticipated, registered pilgrims will have priority access and will be guaranteed entry at selected times.Meanwhile, Sister Maria Casey, the vice postulator for Sister MacKillop's cause for canonization, returned May 23 from Rome after having presented a cure attributed to Blessed Mary. Two doctors will examine the case to determine whether it is evidence of a miracle according to the strict criteria set down by the Vatican Congregation for Saints' Causes. It is the hope of those devoted to the blessed that this cure could be the miracle required to have Mary MacKillop declared saint for the universal Church.Evidence of universal devotion is another requirement for sainthood. In her presentation to the dicastery, Sister Casey included a dossier of letters of support from devotees, as well as evidence that devotion to Blessed Mary exists in 46 countries spread across all the continents."We are looking forward to her canonization, though no date has yet been determined," said Sister Casey. Mary MacKillop Place will be open to pilgrims from Saturday, July 12, to Tuesday, July 22, to accommodate as many pilgrims as possible.

Campion College Special with Fr John Fleming

May 30, 2008 at Unite Adelaide
Fr John Fleming, President of Campion College, Sydney, presented the story of Campion College to Unite Adelaide.

Fr John argued the need for a Catholic liberal arts college in Australia and why school leavers should investigate a future at Campion College. Fr John's background in politics, bioethics and in the media (radio) underpinned his argument. He demonstrated a critical view of the philosophy of the modern world, uncovering its contradictions and how the Catholic voice is being muted. Fr John empowered us to respond to our Baptismal promises and graces we received to witness to truth and justice in a confused and an ever increasing immoral world.

Of course the pizza was scrumptious and it was so good to catch up on all the news from the past month.

We missed Deacon Matthew's blurb this month but await a double shot next time- June 27 with Bishop Greg O'Kelly.

This will be the last UA before World Youth Day08- so come along for Bishop O'Kelly's send off

See you then!
